Community Food Forest

Beginning in Spring 2022 the Food Forrest has shown exciting growth year over year. This feature, cared for by the community for the benefit of the community can be found at our Community Ministries Centre located at 441 3 St SW in Salmon Arm. It’s a joint effort between The Salvation Army and our friends at the Shuswap Food Action Society.

Through fires, floods, and a global pandemic we have been challenged by our community partners to recognize that food security is about more than just provision.

So we planted a garden! We have watched as it has brought people together, inspired the community, built relationships, forged new connections and fed people in a whole new way.

We have heard stories about people making pasta sauce using herbs picked from our spiral, and dried in the sun. We have seen people rave about our radishes. We know that we are growing strawberries, but it’s hard to get one because they go so quickly!

We are so thankful for all of those who have volunteered. It takes a lot of work, but the joy on the faces of those who walk through our garden and find that perfect thing makes it all worth it. Contact us to find out about how you can be a part of the future of the garden! There are so many different kinds of things that the garden needs that we are sure that there is something that will suit you!

The project is being managed by our friends at Lekker Land Design and you can visit them to find out more about the design and construction.
